It is interesting, though may not be surprising to learn from the local media that President Museveni is ignorant of the problems of the national team, the Cranes. Many times while listening to CBS radio I hear the likes of Kato Lubwama mobilizing people for various efforts in support of the Cranes. It is true that many things have gone wrong in Uganda. What should be rightly reflected in the national budget is just big news when the President comes up at such a time to pledge meeting finances which should have been in the national budget.

President Yoweri Museveni has this Friday morning visited the Uganda Cranes team at Namboole Stadium ahead of their much anticipated match against the Harambee Stars of Kenya and offered Shs 50 million.
The President, casually dressed, spent about 20 minutes chatting with the team on the pitch after arriving some minutes after 11am. At his jovial best, the President cracked jokes with coach Bobby Williamson’s men before announcing a Shs50m motivation token and promising to take care of the Cranes welfare.
“I didn’t know the government was the one responsible for the team’s welfare,” he said, according to the Cranes team co-ordinator Crispus Muyinda. Journalists were not allowed in as the President addressed the team.
“But now that I know, everything will be fine. We shall take care of you.” Muyinda also told Monitor that government would take care of players’ allowances and travels, plus paying Bobby Williamson’s salary. Williamson is said to earn close to Shs40m a month and FUFA have often called on the government to come in and help.
The revelation came as the team bid to qualify for the Nations Cup next year. The team will be hosted to a dinner by the President at State House Entebbe after the Saturday match slated to begin at 5:00pm.
