HOW FAR HAS THE US$106M LOAN FROM CHINESE GOVT GONE IN SEEING 2500 KMs OF FIBRE IN PLACE IN UGANDA?
It is important for the people of Uganda to get to know how far the project for which Uganda Government secured a USD106m (about shs180bn) loan from the Chinese Government to construct a national data transmission backbone infrastructure to foster the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has gone.
The people of Uganda need to know how far the objective of the funds has reached regarding the laying of 2,500kms of fibre countrywide. The project is meant to compliment the private sector and not compete with it so as to allow them concentrate investment on the value added service provision rather than infrastructure. The project should lead to improved communication in Uganda through the availability of cheap and easy to access bandwidth.
