KABAKA Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II yesterday marked his 56th birthday at St. Andrews Church of Uganda in Gayaza amidst tight security.
There was heavy deployment on the Kampala-Gayaza road, areas surrounding the church and all the venues the Kabaka visited.
Hundreds of people, including school children, lined up to have a glimpse of the Kabaka as he arrived for the service.
Prior to the service, the Kabaka, accompanied by the Nnabagereka, Sylvia Nnagginda, visited the Katalemewa Chelshire Home for children with disabilities.
He donated 20 wheelchairs, one 10,000-litre water tank, six big saucepans, 50 pairs of bed sheets and planted two fruit trees.
In his sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Luweero, Rt. Rev. Evans Mukasa Kissekka, condemned criminal acts and human rights abuses in the recent days, saying they are uncalled for during the Lent period.
The Katikkiro, J.B. Walusimbi, who spoke on behalf of the Kabaka, said Mutebi’s reign is characterised by challenges, which can only be overcome if his subjects are united.
The service was attended by several Buganda royals and officials, Col. Kizza Besigye, the FDC president, city mayor-elect Erias Lukwago, MPs and several local government officials.
