THE MINISTRY OF GENDER SHOULD ENSURE REGULAR INSPECTION OF CHILDREN BASED NGOs

It is one thing to assume that children based NGOs undertake the holistic approach to children welfare, while what is on the ground in some of these NGOs is to the contrary.
I have had opportunity to take a photo of a child who has had a wound on the leg which has been mismanaged for a period of two years as seen above. This situation would not go on if the Ministry of Gender regularly inspected these children based NGOs to see whether the children were being given the care that is appropriate. The Ministry should come up clearly with guidelines on a number of issues as regards the Children Homes. For example, such Homes should have well qualified Medical personnel and resident. 2ndly, the methods for referral of the sick children in Government Hospitals should be clear and well stipulated so that children are not taken anywhere for treatment. It is also true that some of the NGOs have no appropriate programmes for children with learning problems. The Ministry should ensure that such children are catered for or referred to the right places where they can get relevant training to ensure that they eventually make worthy living.
