UGANDA GOVERNMENT SHOULD COMPENSATE BUGANDA LAND DUE TO UNBALANCED DEVELOPMENT
The NRM Government may have 'brought' development to Buganda, but this is in the short run, in the long run, the people of Buganda are in real trouble, the problem of landlesness. The unbalanced growth in Uganda since NRM captured power to which it is clinging to-date is a real cause of concern to Buganda. The Baganda have two basic problems; the 1st being the land tenure where many of them are not beneficiaries of the Milo land, hence landless. 2nd, the big demand for land where the landless can hardly have resources to buy land. The final position is to be landless.
The problem is blamed on Uganda Government in that unbalanced growth has brought a lot of pressure on land and the poor Baganda have to languish in poverty if nothing is done to bail them. The immediate solution should be to realize land throughout Uganda to be given fre of charge to landless Baganda. It is a fact that all people from various parts of Uganda have the opportunity to buy land in Buganda and this leaves the would be owners of the land as paupers more so that many are not beneficiaries of Mili land hence have to compete to buy the land. It is of much importance that Government moves in fast to compansate the Buganda land due to the unbalanced growth countrywide which is leading to high demand for the land of Buganda.
