GEORGE WILLIAM MAYANJA BALAGANA IS HEIR TO DR GEORGE WILLIAM MAYANJA

George William Mayanja Balagana traveled all the way from Johannesburg where he goes to school in the Higher section to be installed heir to his Late Father Dr. George William Mayanja. Balagana was at St. Mary’s College Kisubi for his O levels up to 2011 before being admitted to St. John’s College, Johannesburg. The only son by Dr. Mayanja says that he has a number of friends at St. Mary’s College Kisubi, these include Mwesigwa Diego Donald who is in S 4, Genwroth Rodney S 5, Turinawe Collin S 4, Kasekende Romeo. Other friends include Michael Kibuka S5 and Aijuka David S 5. Before he was installed heir, one could hardly believe that the youthful boy who had put on casually was actually the one to be put in his Late Father’s shoes. Mayanja Junior is no mean youth as he is officially heir to two no mean gentlemen. It so happens that the Late Dr. George Mayanja was heir to his uncle Prof. Francis Musango; now the youthful Mayanja is also official heir of the Professor in addition to his father.
After the traditional installation ceremony, the Main Celebrant, Bishop Paul Semwogerere of Kasana Luwero Diocese cautioned the heir to take on the responsibilities entrusted to him by his Late father and the clan mates of (Omutima Omuyanja). He is capable of living to the expectation if he remains serious and committed to what is expected of him.
The Katikiiro of Buganda, Engineer John B. Walusimbi told the gathering that the Late Dr. George Mayanja had been his personal friend, school-mate, a former President of St. Mary’s College Kisubi Old Boys’ Association to which he is a member, and that the efforts to see St. Mary’s College Kisubi to higher horizons had earned the Late Doctor a position on the school Board, and by the time of his death, Doctor Mayanja was the Vice Chairman. Talking in his capacity as Katikiiro he told the gathering that the late Doctor had not only been one of Kabaka Mutebi’s personal doctors, but also a friend. He said that Kabaka had offered a whole cow for slaughter at the function.
Among the notables present at the function were: Mr. Louis Kasekende; Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda, Dr. Lawrence Kaggwa (Min. of Health), Engineer Martin Kasekende Chairman Federation of Uganda Employees, Mr. Semanobe (OB SMACK), Brother Edward Bukenya – Head teacher (SMACK), Brother Anthony Kyemwa; the 1st African Headmaster of SMACK, Brother Peter Kazekulya, Brother Agenze, Hon. Hilary Onek (Who was a personal friend of the Late Doctor), The Manager Events (SMACK – OB). Others noted included Mr. Emmanuel Katongole M/D – Quality Chemicals, Mr Henry Kibirige, Matt Kigundu and Michael Jjingo of Centenary Bank and SMACK OB, Doctors from Victoria Medical Centre who included Dr. Abbas Mubiru a friend to Doctor Mayanja since 1972 when they were students in 1st year at Makerere University Medical School and Dr. Nabukenya a Child Specialist at the Clinic. One of Christ the King Choirs was at it during the Mass. Mayanja George William has two sisters; one is a student at Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga and the other is Mrs. Kakooza who stays and works in Kenya. By all standards, I must say the function was well organized and the setting arrangement so good given that the compound looked small given the crowd expected, fortunately, all were swallowed.
