THE AGENDA WHICH WAS SET FOR THE LAST SESSION OF THE 8TH PARLIAMENT OF UGANDA
Members of Parliament have returned from a two-weeks recess to embark on the 5th and the last Session of the 8th Parliament. The Session is the last in the five year term of Parliament which has run from June 2006 to May 2011.
The Session, which commenced on Wednesday 2nd June 2010, was opened by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in accordance with Clause (1) Article 101 of the Constitution mandating him to deliver to Parliament an address on the State of the Nation.
Consequently, the Business Committee of Parliament chaired by the Speaker Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi sat on Monday 7th June and resolved that among pending business to be transacted, is debating the Address of the President of South Africa H. E Dr. Jacob Zuma to Parliament and constituting the Parliamentary Sessional Committees as is done at the beginning of every Session.
Also to be considered by Parliament, in the course of the Session, are the following;
• Motion that gives thanks to the President on his address
of the State of the Nation that was presented to Parliament
• Motion seeking leave of Parliament for a United Nations ban on female
genital mutilation to be presented by the Uganda Government, the East African
Legislative Assembly and the African Union at the 65th Session of the UN
General Assembly.
• The Emoluments of the President, Vice President and Prime Minister
Bill, 2009.
• The Computer Misuse Bill, 2008.
• The Electronic Transactions Bill, 2008.
• The Electronic Signatures Bill, 2008.
• The Regulations of Interception of Communication Bill, 2007.
• The Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2009.
• Motion for presentation, consideration and adoption of the Vote on
Account for Financial Year 2010/11.
• Report on the Government White paper on the Report of the Visitation
Committee on Public Universities in Uganda.
• Report on Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary
Education.
• Report on the Performance of the Health Sector.
• Report of the Public Accounts Committee on CHOGM.
• Report of the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline on the
Amendment of the Rules of Procedure.
• Report of the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline on the
Findings and Recommendations of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)

The Parliament will, as it is mandated, continue to debate other issues which will be raised on the floor of the House. The Eighth Parliament, which is the first multiparty Parliament in over twenty years, currently has 328 members.
